Peter paced back and forth anxiously as he awaited his best friend. They'd made plans to meet in the courtyard at nine, but of course she wasn't there yet. Faye was always late. She never really kept to a schedule, usually doing her own thing, which was one of the things Peter liked most about her. Her carefree attitude was something she had in common with Peter and something that made her easy to hang around with. However, today Peter was eager to see the friend he'd missed out on for an entire summer. It had literally felt as though a half of him were missing as he waited his return to J. Cricket in a foster home the orphanage had placed him in.
That was Peter's deal with the orphanage. He never had to go back as long as he agreed to stay at a foster home each summer. While he would've much rather been crashing at Faye's house, he was obligated to stay with foster families. Sometimes the family he was assigned to was okay, letting him visit his friends for weeks on end. This particular family had been a ranch family and Peter had been trapped there. For an entire summer. Not only that, but the ranch was ridden with creatures, strange smells and, worst of all, responsibilities.
Each morning Peter was woken up at five to feed animals, clean stalls, and bale hay. While it had gained him a newly formed six pack as well as other muscles he was sure he'd never seen before, Peter had despised every minute of it and was now glad to be home. He looked around the courtyard once more before sighing and pulling his phone out of the pockets of his jeans and started a new text message.
fayyeee, where are you?! i'm going crazy here, i miss you! --peter
He sighed as he turned the phone in his hands, not even noticing the girls that eyed him as they walked past. He hadn't dressed up today, wearing a pair of simple jeans and a worn Beatles t-shirt underneath a leather jacket, but he had an adventurous vibe that girls seemed to pick on. Unfortunately for them, most of his adventures were reserved for Faye or whoever else happened to tag along with him.

Late, late, late.
"Ugh. I hate my lifee." The blonde grumbled, as she ran past groups of students shuffling down the halls. The first day Peter was back, and she was late meeting him. She let out a soft string of curses, and continued to run down toward the the courtyard.
Moments later, her phone began to ring. If it was Peter, well, she'd just explain she was a little---Oh. It was a text message. She opened it, and she stopped, her face breaking into a wide grin, and her stomach filling to the brim with butterflies.
Her thumbs skirted the keys as fast as they could. I'm comingg! And I sooo miss you more. Don't even start. ~ Faye. Hitting send, the blonde ran as fast as her little feet would carry her, until she found herself in the courtyard.
Tanned legs covered by jean shorts, the tiny girl spotted her best friend from behind and ran up, jumping on his back the best she could. "PETER PETER PETER!" She yelped, hanging onto him as tight as she could.
Reunited and it felt so good.

Peter sighed as a girl tried to approach him. Normally he would've accepted her company gladly, but Faye's late arrival was making him testy and so instead he paced away from her. He stood on the edge of the fountain for a moment, craning his neck to search for his friend and jumping slightly as his phone vibrated in his pocket. He slid the phone out of his pocket and let his eyes wander over the new text he'd received from Faye. The word's brought a wide grin to his face and he jumped down from the fountain, bouncing excitedly.
Faye had been Peter's best friend since the first year of school, and it was hard for him to imagine his life without her. All his life he'd wished that there was someone who understood him, or even listened to him. By some miracle, he'd found someone who did both. While most figured he and Faye were a couple, Peter had decided it would be best if they remained friends. Most of the girls Peter dated didn't last, and there was no way he was risking his perfect friendship with Faye. Besides, she never seemed interested in him so it was silly to even consider them being anything more. They were the perfect friends and that was it.
Just as Peter was beginning to get irate again, he was pushed forward by the force of someone hopping on his back. Of course, it could've only been one person and he laughed with the joy of knowing she was there. "FAYE FAYE FAYE!" he exclaimed excitedly, spinning with her on his back. "Get off of me so I can hug you, stupid!"

Since the first day they'd met, Faye Tinker had be sure that she was in love with Peter. Or in like, at least. That grew into love over the years. She'd never told him, because, well, she knew his dating track, and he never really...showed interest. Unlike Woody and a few others. Sure, she'd had a few boyfriends in the past, and Peter did get protective, but it was more a sibling protectiveness that it was jealousy.
He was adorable. So tall...so fun....so perfect. So perfect for Faye. As she held onto him, she closed her eyes for a second, until his adorable voice woke her from her dreams. He'd spun her, and she giggled. And he called her stupid!
"Peter Panning Newman, you did NOT just call me stupid." The blonde hopped off his back and walked in front of him, hands on her hips. "You're so mean to me. After three months of being without you, this is what I get?" She asked, pouting. "I really should smack you." Faye stated, turning away from him with a huff and a giggle.
Damn, she'd missed Peter way too much. If it wasn't obvious, it should've been. She peeked over at him, and turned. "Now c'mere and hug me, silly boy." She said, opening her arms. As tall as he was, Peter did give fantastic hugs.

Peter smiled as he took in the moment. Faye's distinct smell, her voice, her laugh...he'd missed it all. He'd never thought it possible to miss someone so much, having grown up without any family or anyone even like family, but three months without Faye sure had done the trick. He'd texted her whenever he could while on the ranch, but it wasn't the same. Seeing her and hearing her voice was something he looked forward to each day.
Knowing she'd be offended by his calling her stupid, Peter laughed as she turned away from him. Though he may insult her or call her a name from time to time, he never meant a word of it and he was sure Faye knew it, for if she didn't he wouldn't call her names. Nothing to hurt his other half.
As Faye peeked over her shoulder, Peter smiled widely. This was his indication that he truly was forgiven. He always waited for Faye's subtle hints that he wasn't, in fact, in trouble. He had seen Faye when she was angry and tried to stay on her good side. It wasn't difficult for him, but sometimes he would overstep a line and he knew better than to push Faye before hew as forgiven. As Faye opened her arms to him, though, Peter wasted no time in pulling her tightly against his chest. As he'd had to bend down to hug her, she stood up straight once more, lifting Faye off of her feet and breathing in deeply. "I seriously missed you. So. Fucking. Much. I thought I was going crazy!" Peter laughed. There was so much he wanted to tell her, but he held back and decided to enjoy the moment before catching up.

Everyday, Peter did something that just made Faye fall even more in love with him. Today, well, today was just him being there. That made her feel happy, and all she really wanted to do was kiss him. Of course, that was wrong and inappropriate to do to your best friend. Well, Faye didn't see it as inappropriate, but she'd hold herself.
She'd recalled their many texts and phone conversations over the summer. She whined that he wasn't there, and he would soothe her nerves, reminded her how many days until they were back at J. Cricket, together at last.
He laughed, and she rolled her eyes. He loved to joke with her. And when she gave him a sublte sign that she wasn't angry, she saw that smile of his that made her heart beat like a drum. He knew that making her mad was like asking for a death wish. Almost everyone knew that by now. And if they didn't, well, sucked for them.
Soon enough, Peter pulled her in, and she closed her eyes, happy to be in one of her favorite places in the world. Eventually, she was dangling in mid-air, Peter's arms holding her tight. "Did I not text you to not even start with this missing business? We both know I missed you most, end of story." She laughed and looked up at him. "I think I went crazy without you. You have to come stay with me this summer. If you don't, I'll probably have to run away to where ever they're makng you stay." She nodded, trying to sound serious.
Every word made those butterflies multiply and multiply. He missed her. He was going crazy without her. She felt the exact same, and was happy to know that at least THOSE feelings were reciprocated.

Peter smiled as Faye relaxed into his arms, resting his cheek against the top of her head. He'd been planning of weeks what they'd do as soon as he returned home, but suddenly none of the things he'd planned seemed as important as just being with her now. That was part of the beauty of his friendship with Faye. They didn't even have to be doing anything to have fun. Just being with Faye, Peter had a blast and he would often sneak into her room at nights to prolong their time together. It's not as if anything sexual ever happened between the two. Cuddling, sure, but it was all in good fun.
Not that Faye wasn't beautiful, for that was something she surely was. Her long blonde hair framed her face perfectly, her gorgeous, wide eyes sparkling with her bubbly personality. She was a good foot shorter than Peter, and most boys for that matter, but that only made her more endearing. Because of her good looks, many boys like Faye which bothered Peter more than it should've. She was like his sister, he surely should protect her from heartless guys, right? But it was more than protecting her from getting hurt, something Peter hadn't yet figured out himself that ate ate him when he saw Faye with another boy.
As Peter brought up that text he'd received from her just moments ago he rolled his eyes. "Psh. Sweetheart, when have I ever listened to your 'final word'? I'll tell you when. Never. Because I absolutely missed you more. Especially considering I was wasting away on that bloody ranch!"
Though wasting away was one of the last things he'd done. He'd gained a pound or two, making him look healthy for once, and he'd gained much muscle. He wondered if Faye could tell that he was any stronger. She hadn't even noticed his haircut, but he knew she would eventually."I'll try and remind Tina to send me somewhere without a crazy family, but if that doesn't pan out I'm holding you to stealing away to see me," Peter said honestly, grinning crookedly down at Faye.

Faye was excited. This year brought about adventures, and the dorm sneak-ins. Hopefully, her room mates wouldn't mind. Even if they did, Faye would probably do something to get revenge if they tattled. Besides, it wasn't like they were doing things that Faye really wanted to. They simply snuggled, cuddled, and talked.
Being pressed against his torso, Faye felt a bit of muscle. Not to mention his arms. She craned her neck to look at them. Damn. That boy had a good summer. Obviously, being on that farm had done him some good. And when she looked up, next she noticed his hair. Why did he have to look cute with any hairstyle? Was it fate trying to make all this harder on her?
She rolled her eyes. Sweetheart. "You need to start to. Bullshit, Peter Newman. We both know that I missed you more. So much, that I just sat in my room all day, everyday, crying about how far away you were." She nodded and jutted out her lower lip, trying to make this all the more sad.
"That farm obviously made you even better. The girls will be all over you." She snaked an arm to grab one of his arm muscles and giggled. "Please do. I will steal away to see you. I'll sneak in and I can sleep with you, and you can sneak me food and stuff. And then I'll kidnap you and take you home with me until it's time to go to school. Annnnd, we can spend my birthday together!" She smiled happily, disppaointed slightly that Peter had been gone on her birthday.

Peter finally set Faye back on the ground, his arms sliding down to her hands, both of which he grabbed, lacing his fingers through hers. He swung their hands back and forth playfully, trying to decide the first place they should go. Of course, there was his dorm. He'd learned that he'd been rooming with a one Tim Wood this year, which he was excited for. Woody was great fun, however that meant Cameron Norrington would be present as well. Peter had never gotten along with Cam, for Cam was a notorious stickler for the rules. Peter, of course, never followed any rules. But Peter knew he'd manage.
Peter raised his eyebrows. "You were not crying, you big liar!" he accused. Though he himself had cried the first night he realized he wouldn't be allowed to see Faye all summer. Not that he would ever tell her that. Petter Panning Newman just did not cry. He didn't cry when he was hurt, he didn't cry for his mother, and he didn't even cry for Faye. Though she was worth crying over. "Wait...you didn't cry, did you?"
Peter laughed as Faye mentioned girls. Though it would be with any other girl, taking to Faye about other girls was never a problem. Sometimes she asked and she just generally didn't mind. "I've already had girls coming at me today, actually. Not that I paid them any mind. Not when I had you coming to meet me. You come before all other girls." When she mentioned her birthday however, he clenched his jaw. "Don't even bring that up. I tried to explain to that nut-job father that my very best friend in the entire world was turning seventeen without me and it was urgent that I get there but did he let me come see you? No. I thought about letting their sheep go, but I think that was their lively-hood. So instead I put snakes in their bed. In your honor, of course,"Peter said, smiling proudly.

Finally, he put her down. Which was disappointing. Looking up, Faye saw their, his and her, hands slide back and forth. These were times when she wanted to know what, exactly, Peter was thinking about. Her? His other friends? The summer? Maybe how Faye's hair looked? Or how her skin was a little tan, or maybe...no. It didn't seem like those things crossed his mind all that often.
She scoffed when he called her a liar. Admittedly, she cried at least once every week, after they'd hang up their phones from a two hour conversation. She'd cry because he wasn't there when she needed him. Did you? She blinked, blue eyes focused on his. "What if I did?" She asked, raising her brows this time. "Cause maybe I did."
Faye's teeth sunk into her lip as soon as she said the girl thing. Any girl that touched Peter was getting food dye in their shampoo. She swore to herself that would happen. Girls actually came to him today?! NO. Oh hell no. That wasn't okay with Faye. She grit her teeth until he said something that changed her mind. He didn't pay them mind when he knew she was coming. She came before all other girls. Her heart could've sorted from those few words.
She came before all other girls.
Her birthday, however, drove her out of that fantasy. She laughed at Peter, and hugged him, burying her face in his stomach. "They sound like nut-jobs. But thank you! That's the best present I've ever gotten." She looked up at Peter and laughed again. He really was the best friend a girl could ask for.
