The annual Kostine Masquerade was one that Amber knew well. She always enjoyed it, but hated the mask part solely because she could never find the right mask for her dress. Most people went about the process of getting the mask first so that they had something to choose their dress off of. Amber did it backwards. She was always more excited about the dress than the mask. She envied those who could find the perfect mask and the perfect dress and seem to love them both. Amber loved her dress, and she loved her mask, but they didn't exactly go together. In fact, the mask that she liked the best sort of made her look like she was a tree. Her mask was a simple off white shade with some gold in it which tied in with her jewelry; the mask she wanted was gold and would've matched perfectly if not for the fact that there were emerald details that were like vines. The green over the brown would've made her look like a tree so she had chosen the other one. She had initially been on the hunt for a very simple gold mask, but couldn't quite find one. There weren't many places to find masks in London that Amber knew of, so she was lucky that she didn't have to reuse the one from last year.
Once she got beyond the annoyance of the masks, she found that she liked the masquerade. It was a grand idea! Most people wouldn't dream of putting together a masquerade because those were so "outdated" that - while everyone liked the general idea - nobody would actually believe that the intention was to actually wear a mask. Everyone at Kostine did though and it was just a magical idea to think that here they were in a castle with a masquerade. It was almost like Romeo and Juliet were expected to emerge from the crowd and dance to the dismay of their parents. That would've been quite a show, but short lived. Amber had been at the party since the very beginning. She had enjoyed the meal planned prior to the dancing with her friends. It was difficult to keep some of the mystery alive when Amber could easily pick her friends out of a crowd; not to mention a group of them had gotten together to get ready beforehand and they knew what everyone was wearing.
They claimed a table for themselves and had a grand old time. Then it was time for the dancing. It was nearly eight o'clock and the sun was setting. Amber had always been prone to getting headaches, and she had decided that she desperately needed air. When her friend offered to come, the brunette dismissed the idea and went to the courtyard. While it was significantly quieter, there seemed to be a good amount of people trying to get some air as well. They were all chatting up a storm and Amber just wanted peace and quiet. There were a number of places Amber could've gone for this, but she chose to go up to the roof where she was always at peace. She always wanted to take photos up there, but she couldn't decide why. She wanted the landscape to be captured, but she had tried from the roof before and the magic just didn't register. It was impossible to capture the coolness of the breeze or the stillness of the air, but that was what Amber wanted so desperately to snap into a photo. She also wanted to drag a friend up here and sort of give them a photoshoot. She imagined all of the images in her head, but for some reason she couldn't see it through a camera lense. Amber feared she was losing her touch, but she knew better. She had just been busy lately and overwhelmed getting back into the swing of things at school.
Stepping onto the roof, far from the party, she was glad that the music died out. The air was still like a summer nights, though a little more chilled. Amber didn't mind it though; it was a nice kind of cold. She was hot and had a headache from the dancing and loud music. Then she did what was strictly against the rules at any masquerade: she removed her mask. She untied the golden ribbon and then used the mask as a sort of fan before just fiddling with the ribbon. She leaned on the little 'wall', balancing on her right foot, she picked up her left foot and tapped her toe behind her. a little breeze came through and teased her straightened brown locks that she had released from the simple (yet very pretty) ponytail. Oh, it was lovely.
