FEARS: being rejected by the man she falls in love with; always being trapped by her parents' over-protectiveness
GOALS: to preform on Broadway someday; finding true love
PERSONALITY: Her upbringing, coddled by her mother's sister and growing up away from her parents in a small town gave her a bit of a sanitized, idealistic portrait of the world. Even upon being reunited with her parents a few years ago, Lily-Rose retained her optimism and idealism, though she has had no reason to lose it yet. She is, however, a bit less so than she once was; she is disillusioned with her childhood imaginings of her parents, who now seem to stand in her way.
Though she is frustrated with her parents' seemingly unrealistic fears, Lily-Rose is a cheerful young woman in general. She always has a kind word for everyone, and most of the time it seems like very genuine kindness. She's not easily angered and always thinks the best of everyone. she has a ready smile, and there is an inherent sweetness about her which seems to draw people in. her sugar-coated words and generally happy demeanor can be annoying, but they are part of her nature.
Rose is a complete idealist. She really wants nothing more than a man to love her, truly love her, and a family. She loves her Aunt Mary, but since she wasn't raised by her family, one of her dreams is a sweet, quiet little family. She firmly believes that true love is out there somewhere, and that it will be a “love at first sight” sort of moment; it'll be something she'll just “know.”
MOTHER: Leah Jane Kennedy (nee Taylor)
FATHER: Steven Michael Kennedy
SIBLINGS: N/A
OTHERS: Mary Taylor, aunt
HOMETOWN: San Diego, California
BRIEF HISTORY: The wedding of Leah Taylor, a semi-famous television actress, and writer Steven Taylor was a huge social event in San Diego twenty-two years ago. While Steven wasn't considered “handsome enough” for the promising young actress, everyone was swept up in their love story anyway. Their joy was only added to when, two years after their wedding, Leah gave birth to a baby girl. They named her Dawn and the couple was happier than ever.
But everything changed when the Kennedys began receiving kidnapping threats over the phone, in the mail and finally on their doorstep. The police said it was likely nothing to worry about, but when nothing was done about it for months and with the threat of losing their baby girl looming over their heads, they made a hard decision. Leah called her sister, Mary, and asked her to discreetly take the baby away and raise her in safety as her own child. She agreed, despite feeling as though they were taking things far too seriously, and the devastated couple bid farewell to their daughter for her own sake.
Mary renamed her little niece Lily-Rose, or Rose for short. They lived together in her small Appalachian town in North Carolina. Nestled in the safety of such an anonymous setting and a new name, little Rose flourished. She heard stories of her parents, but never questioned why she did not live with them instead of with her aunt. She grew into a pretty teenager with the voice “of an angel,” as Mary put it. She became heavily involved in the musical theatre department and at school, and choir was the one class she excelled in. she often scribbled down her own tunes and developed the habit of humming under her breath almost constantly.
When she was sixteen, Mary wrote to her sister and the two of them agreed that it was finally time for Rose to come back home and that the worst of the danger had passed. Rose was excited to finally meet her parents though she was sad to bid farewell to the home she had always known. Mary stayed on with the family for a while, and the Kennedys reluctantly agreed to call their daughter Lily-Rose instead of the name they had always used to think of her, Dawn. Once she was sufficiently settled, Rose was enrolled in a private high school; she did not seem to fit in very well, however, and again used singing as her solace.
She quickly discovered that her parents, though they loved her, still thought of her as a child and thus picked a college as far away from them—and as close to her aunt in North Carolina—as possible. She's quite happy where she is now, and has no intention of returning to California and her parents' stifling love any time in the near future except for summer vacations. More than anything, she's hoping to find a young man who loves her and whom she can love in return and settle down with him, perhaps with a stint on Broadway first.
