Percy grinned at Alice as she patted his hand, and grabbed her hand in return. He interlaced their fingers together, keeping their hands between them on the couch. It may have seemed intimate, but that's just how Percy was. He held hands will all his friends, and this was the only way his hands knew how to hold on. The other way seemed like it would be too easy to get separated. Percy loved Alice, she was a dear friend to him, and holding her hand was as natural to him as breathing.
Percy smiled grimly at Alice, knowing she felt bad about bringing up grades around him. His fault anyway, getting all disgruntled over something ridiculous like her getting better grades without trying as hard as him. He was being stupid. He grinned at Alice when she offered to read some of her Harry Potter book to him. He loved being read to, it was his only chance to be able to enjoy books, to be like everyone else. "Harry Potter? Which one?" he asked, smiling at Alice. Then he began laughing, when she became agitated at his wanting to go ahead and graduate. Percy would miss Alice as well, but he needed to be away from this place now. Away from trying so hard and receiving so little results.
"I'm sure you'll be fine. You're strong," he told her, grinning at the blonde girl. Alice had other friends, and some of them Percy actually liked. Alice would be fine on her own for a year, he believed in her. Then Percy saw the tears in her eyes that she tried to wipe away. Using his free hand to brush a thumb under her eye, and pushing her hair back behind her ear at the same time. She must have been really torn up about her father. "If he's anything like you Alice, then he'll be perfectly fine.
