Percy walked into the lounge, a tired look on his face. He'd stayed up all night studying. Again. It was only the beginning of the year and already he was overloaded with way too much work. Junior year was murder, and rumor had it that senior year was even worse. That was gonna be fun...
Maybe he should pull a Cumulo and just drop out. He could find a way to get to flight school without graduating, at least he could get his GED or something, that ought to help. At least then he would be able to go see his sister whenever he wanted. But then again, he would miss his friends here at the academy. Percy flopped down onto one of the couches, looking like a tired little American. Which he was, even though he was of average height.
Percy stared up at the ceiling, glad to have this relaxing break away from trying to study. His shirt was probably getting wrinkled from the way he was just so casually slung across the couch, but he was too tired to care. He ran a hand over his face, pressing against his eyes in order to relieve some of the pressure. He would be glad once a school break came up, giving him a chance to relax.
He lay there until he heard a someone else come into the room, removing his hand from his face. He sat up, giving the appearance of looking well rested and perfectly fine, though if one were to look too closely at his eyes, they’d noticed they were slightly bloodshot. Lack of sleep did odd things to the human body, and the human mind. Sleep would be a very welcomed friend right now.
"Hi," Percy said, smiling warmly at the person once he recognized them.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Alice yawned as she made her way to the lounge, her coffee in hand. It had been a study day for Alice, and it looked it. She was surprisingly casual and yet she still caught glances of those around her. Her long blonde hair piled atop her head in a bun, she wore little make up. She wore a baggier sweater paired with old, rolled up jeans and pair of sneakers. She carried her favorite owl bag, in it her sketch-pad and colored pencils as well as her phone. As she took a sip of her coffee, she closed her eyes, smiling in delight. It wasn't often that she got coffee. In fact, the last time she'd had it she'd gotten so hyper even her friend Chess had asked her to settle. But today she was calm, not as crazy as she usually was. The coffee would bring her back to normal Alice and she would be ready to adventure again.
Swinging open the lounge door, Alice made her way through the large room. It was warm, but not too warm and she sighed happily, glad to be in a comfortable temperature as well as her comfortable clothes. Not that she didn't like dressing up. She loved it, in fact. But sometimes it was nice to let her guard down. Sometimes it was nice not to have to worry about what she was wearing or what people were thinking of her. She set her bag down near a couch and her coffee on the table beside it. She stretched slightly and reached into her bag for her phone. There were a few new messages, though as her eyes scanned them, she sighed and placed the phone back in her bag. No one of importance, it seemed. Not having fully realized she wasn't alone, Alice jumped when someone spoke, letting out a small noise similar to squeaking. She turned quickly to see who the voice belonged to and smiled when she did.
"Percy!" she said excitedly, dropping her phone and crossing the room. She slid her small arms around the boy and hugged him tightly. It was slightly awkward, as he was laying down, but Alice didn't mind. She'd missed her friends, Percy among them. Percy was one of her more sensible friends, always getting her out of trouble. She admired him, of course in more way than one. Alice and, secretly, had a crush on Percy since April of the previous year. Of course, she'd yet to share her affections with Percy himself. "How've you been, dearest?" she asked as she released him, still smiling brightly.

Percy saw that Alice hadn't noticed him at first, so he laid back down, and smiled when he saw her squeak in surprise. Now, even though he had been friends with Alice for close to a year now, it still surprised Percy when she practically leaped across the lounge and awkwardly hugged him. She was one of his closer friends, though also one of the wilder. Percy constantly had to keep her from doing reckless things.
"Alice, why does it seem that you get even more energetic each time I see you? I'm fine, by the way. How're you?" Percy said, grinning at his friend. Alice was a year younger than Percy, only a Sophomore to his supreme junior status. Well, he wasn't really supreme... just a bit higher on the school hierarchy as far as grades went.
Alice was a good friend for Percy, she kept him on his toes. She wasn't boring like others, and she always seemed to have a good time. Percy loved her like a younger sister, and anyone who tried to hurt her would fave a seriously angry Percy on their hands.
Percy stifled a yawn that threatened to give away his tiredness. He didn't need Alice asking why he was so tired, he did not want to lie to her. He didn't want to lie to any of his friends really, but he had to so that they wouldn't find out. It was his secret, and one he'd take to his grave.
Percy realized that, as he lay on the couch, lying on the couch with his shoes on was extremely weird. So Percy sat up, bringing one leg up in a half-indian criss cross sitting style. He knew he acted like a child sometimes, but what's life without letting your inner child take over every once and a while?

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Smiling slightly, Alice grabbed her things and moved to the couch that Percy was on. She slid her shoes off -- a force of habit -- before sitting criss-cross on the couch facing Percy. She snuggled herself into the couch, deciding she might as well make herself comfortable. She and Percy had been engaged in many conversations, and many of them lasted a while. With Percy, Alice could be more serious than she was with her other friends. Of course, she was still curious, fun-loving Alice, but the serious questions she had were directed toward Percy. She found questions about politics or actual emotions wasted on some of her other friends. But Percy was like a brother to her. While she didn't like that he saw himself as her brother, she would accept it for the time being. She needed an older brother, really. Someone to tell her right from wrong, someone to give her advice, someone to go with her on her adventures, not only to have fun but also to protect her. Yes, Percy was just what she needed.
Alice laughed at his comment about her energy. How could he perceive her to be so energetic on a day that she was so energy-less? "Strangely enough, Perce, I'm running low on energy today," she admitted with a chuckle. "I had a day filled with studying. Can you believe it? I, Alice Valerie Wondar, actually studied. It was horrible. Other than that, though. I'm good. Are you sure you're fine? Your eyes look a little bloodshot," Alice observed, trying not to sound to interested or concerned, both of which she failed at. "Did someone have a rough night?" she asked in a baby-ish tone, playfully mocking him. She knew that Percy could be just as adventurous as she (or close to it, anyway), he just didn't like to show it. He could also be childish, as was displayed by the way he currently sat, one leg crossed beneath him. Alice, personally, found it absolutely adorable and she blushed at the thought. She cleared her throat, and her head of such thoughts, and smiled brightly at Percy. "How was your vacation, Perce?"

Percy smiled lightly as Alice moved all her stuff over to his couch, settling down with him. He wasn't going to get his rest today, but this was a nice alternative, spending time with Alice. He was protective of her, seeing as she went off to do wild things all the time. She was like a little sister to him, a wild reckless little sister that he had to look out for.
Percy listened to her as she talked about how she had no energy. She had no energy? How was that possible? She seemed to be bubbling with energy, though she was drinking coffee. Last time she had coffee she was a bit scary, all hyper and whatnot. Percy laughed, leaning against the other arm of the sofa. "You studied? The world has to be ending," he said teasingly. He avoided the question concerning his health and his eyes. "What, just because I'm not as crazy and reckless as you I don't know how to have a good time?"
He didn't really, staying up all night to study was less than a good time. But hey, teasing Alice was all in good-natured fun. He looked towards the ceiling, stretching his back against the arm of the couch. He felt it pop in several places, loud and probably disgusting. Then he came to his shoulder blades, his most difficult ones to pop. The ones that caused him all the problems. People called the shoulder blades the angel bones, saying that if if we had wings they would have sprouted there. Well apparently his wings were growing, hopefully not literally.
Percy sat up, discomfort settling itself on his shoulder blades, though he didn't show it. "My vacation was alright, spent most of the time running and calling my sister. My father was rarely home again. How was yours? Did you get into lots of trouble?" he said jokingly.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Alice rolled the sleeves of her sweater up, stretching and sighing. Her body ached from a day full of sitting in the library. She'd brushed up on her math, science, and history. She'd left English alone, for that was one of her best subjects. Though she hated to study, and almost hated school, English was the one place Alice could find solace. Reading, if the book were entertaining, could hold her attention for hours. Not even her father had mastered that, yet. She loved to read, and loved to read to others. Often, around her younger cousins, Alice would read whatever she could. Even the dictionary, though they didn't like that much.
At Percy's comment about her studying, Alice laughed, though also smacked his leg lightly. "Oh come on! I study...er...sometimes." In reality though, she didn't. Alice didn't like to spend too long doing one thing, for she often got bored. Though she loved to read, her textbooks didn't apply to that rule. She often found herself getting lost in the text. Lost. Another thing Alice couldn't stand. At Percy's last question, Alice looked thoughtful for a moment. "Mmm...yes," she finally decided, grinning crookedly.A shudder passed through Alice as Percy popped his back and she made a face. She hated when he did that. Hated when anyone popped their joints, actually. She'd heard the sound of breaking bones -- sometimes those of others, sometimes her own -- to cringe at even a like sound. She was sure Percy knew her hatred of the sound, and yet he tortured her so? She smirked slightly. He must be getting her back for her teasing him. He told her about his summer and she nodded, understanding. She'd heard once or twice about Percy's family. She knew that his father was hardly every home and that his sister, one of his closest friends, traveled often. "That's so good that you got to talk to her, Perce!" she replied genuinely, smiling. Her smile faded, however, as he asked about her summer. Her cheeks paled slightly and she looked at her hands, taking a sip of her coffee. "Mm my summer was fine. Didn't do much, actually. Mostly stayed at home." Which was true. Alice had stayed home, but only because her father had gotten terribly sick, and she was too afraid to be apart from him. What would she do if, god forbid, he were to pass while she was gone? Alice knew she would never forgive herself were that the case. Part of the reason she called her mother, a woman she detested, every day to check on her father."Surprisingly, I got into absolutely no trouble," she laughed, though it was half-hearted, her mind still on her father obviously.[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - status: COMPLETEtagged: PERCY <3words: FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FOURoutfit: THIS LITTLE NUMBERnotes: 1- SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG 2- I <3 THEM 3- ALICE HAS A DEEP SIDE?! Percy remembered his sophomore year, it had been somewhat challenging compared to freshman year, which was easy as pie (now he wanted some pie, Percy would have to make a trip down to the kitchens later). He would give anything to trade his Junior year for his Sophomore year, at least he'd heard that Senior year was easy. His hardest subject had been English last year, still was, but with as much as Alice read books, she probably didn't have a single trouble wit the subject. The lucky girl. Percy could only wished he could love books as much as she did.
Percy laughed as she swatted at his leg, defending her studying habits. If she'd kept the same ones as last year, then she'd been studying about as much as Percy had been committing Arson. Which was to say, never. "Alice don't try to lie to me. You've studied about as much as you did last year. Which is if I'm getting this correct, little to none? If you've studied, then I'm going to commit Arson soon," Percy teased, grinning at the blonde girl. Then he looked offended when Alice said, he didn't know how to have a good time? "Alice, that's hurtful." Percy fake pouted, and gave his best hurt face.
Then Percy started grinning right after he had popped his back. He'd caught Alice's shudder, she apparently didn't like it when he popped his back. Oh well, too bad for her. He nodded once, when she said it was great that he'd spoken to Cumulo and grinned himself when she said she hadn't gotten into trouble. "That's amazing. I'm kind of proud of you. How're your parents?" he asked. He'd heard practically nothing about her family, though people knew some things about his family, like his dad and how his awesome sister was an ostrich racer.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Alice ran her fingers through her hair, now unable to stop thinking about her father. His illness had come on so quickly, not even the doctors had predicted it. He'd been doing business in his office one morning and the next thing Alice knew, he was on the floor and everyone was running around, screaming for a doctor. They couldn't exactly name what he had, though he thought it might be some form of cancer, which tore at Alice's heart every time she thought of it. For the moment, her father was a vegetable. He could speak a few words at a time, but other than that he mostly slept or stared up at the ceiling. Even so, Alice hadn't left his side much all summer. There she'd sat, beside his bed, reading the day away. Occasionally her mother would take her shopping and once in a while she would talk to a friend on the phone. Mostly, though, she only ever left her father to go to the bathroom or eat. She didn't need any company, she talked to her father when she had something to say. He didn't respond, but she didn't mind. She knew he was listening, and that was all that mattered.
His laugh made her smile, but furthermore it awoke the butterflies in her stomach. Damn, she thought she'd silenced them. There had been a time last year that everything Percy did caused those butterflies to flutter. And then there was a period where they were silenced, while she dated Peter. She'd thought she'd tamed them forever, but apparently she was wrong. It was just that she'd made someone laugh, either. She made people laugh all the time, however mostly they were laughing at her rather than with her. But something about making Percy laugh pleased her more than she'd thought it would. "Hey now! I studied last year. And even if I didn't, I still got all A's, so nyeah," Alice replied, sticking her tongue out at him childishly. She smiled slightly when he looked offended, though her mind sent off red flags. He had to know she'd been kidding, right? "Aw, you know I love you, Perce."She sipped the rest of her coffee, turning the empty cup in her hands as she though. What would she tell him about her family? A simple, 'my dad's sick' would suffice. But she found herself wanting to tell him even more. Though she knew she wouldn't. That was no one's business but hers, right? Besides, she was sure no one wanted to hear her idle tales about her sick father. Bo-ring. "I'm touched that you're proud of me, really. And, er, my parents are...okay. My dad's a bit sick, but I'm sure he'll be fine." Percy could see that Alice was growing quieter, a difference from her normal bubbly self. Was her father's illness that bad? Percy wondered if he should ask her more, or leave it alone. He may have been open with his family situations, but that didn't mean other people were. He shifted himself to where he was sitting with his back against the back of the couch, closer to Alice. Without saying anything, or pressing the matter further, Percy felt like this would be a small wordless comfort.
Percy did feel a bit agitated when he heard that Alice made all A's. She got all A's and didn't study at least half as hard as Percy did. Some things in life weren't fair, he studied his ass off just to get a C average and some people don't study at all and fly through school like it's supposed to be easy? It sucked being dyslexic. But Percy wouldn't get angry about it, not his fault he got the short end of the stick when it came to genetics. Percy tilted his head back to relax against the couch, closing his eyes. Graduation seemed like so far away, he had to wait a year and a semester and a half to get out of here so that he could be rid of this learning stint that kept him from making straight A's like the others. "I can't wait to graduate," he said, sighing. School was a soul sucking place that made him more and more bitter as the days went by.
He turned his head towards Alice, peeking open his brown eyes at the girl. He felt sympathetic of the girl, but not empathetic. He didn't know what it was like to have a decent father figure, not even a mother figure. Just Cumulo and his Nanny. He hoped Alice's father would be okay, because he's hate to see her unhappy if something even worse were to happen. Knock on wood. "Well, here's wishing him well," Percy said, smiling softly at the girl. Alice was too nice to have such worries in her life.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Alice was pleased by his gesture and she reached over, patting his hand and smiling sweetly at him, her signal to him that things were okay. Though, in her mind, she knew they weren't. People at school were treading her differently due to her more grown-up physique first of all. It was true, her freshman year she'd dressed...younger. Knee-length, plaid skirts, long socks, mary-janes, and often a childish sweater. She also lacked curves and a few inches, both of which she'd gained over the summer. Her wardrobe was also completely different. Shorts were now in -- short shorts at that -- and she'd changed the sweaters out for thin, frilly blouses that showed off her new girlish figure. She'd thought wearing clothes that matched her new body would just be more comfortable and it was, but people, boys in particular, were now also beginning to notice her. She wasn't sure she liked it either.
She instantly felt bad for mentioning her good grades. She knew that Percy maintained a C average, even though he studied night and day. She'd never understood this, personally. Percy seemed so smart to her. He knew so much, and yet he did so poorly in classes. She'd never asked him about it, never thought it polite. "Oh, that was rude of me to bring up grades. Er...I'll read you some of my Harry Potter book, if you'd like. I know how you loooooovee iiiit," Alice said with a smile, sliding her book out of her bag and waving it around. She was sure that Percy wasn't really mad with her, but she could tell that he was a little bit annoyed. She frowned when he brought up his graduation. "Ugh. Don't remind me of that. A whole year I'll be without you. Let's hope I survive," she laughed.Wiping at her eyes softly, Alice sniffed slightly. No. She could not be crying. Not in front of Percy! God, that was embarrassing. Alice turned her head away, pretending to cough as she dabbed at her eyes with her sleeve. She hadn't even felt the tears coming, but she knew they were well overdue. The whole time her father had been silent, she hadn't cried once for him. She'd just sat beside his bed contently, reading or drawing. She nodded as Percy wished him well, finally able to turn back around. She shrugged as if it were no big deal. "I'm sure he'll be fine. My mother certainly seems to think so. She's already planning events for when he's well again," Alice said with a laugh. "My mother's a little bit...well...hell, she's crazy," Alice said, shaking her head and smirking to herself.[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - status: COMPLETEtagged: PERCY <3outfit: THIS LITTLE NUMBERnotes: TOGETHER THEY ARE JUST THE CUUUUUTESSSSTTT <3<3lyrics: FIREFLIES, OWL CITYcredit: TEMPLATE BY SHAZI ?!
