Emily loved the annual Halloween party. She always enjoyed watching the preparations. Sometimes she helped set up the booths and such despite the fact that the school hired people to do just that. It gave her something to do and added to her excitement. It was totally different to help set things up than it was to just walk in. While Emily liked the element of surprise, the fact that she saw just how much effort was put into the whole ordeal really made her joy elevate as she saw it all come together and witness the reaction of the students at the end of the event. Today was no such day for her to participate, though she wished she could help.
In the past years she had simple outfits. Freshman year she was a bumblebee, Sophomore year she was Wonder Woman (though she wasn't a big fan of that costume), and now it was time for her Junior year. She knew the way that the carnival worked, having taken part in it the past two years. Now she was an upper classman, she had to make more of a statement. She was contemplating on being Elizabeth Swann as a pirate, but she figured that wouldn't stand out so much. So many people would run around being pirates because pirates were sort of a fall back costume. When it doubt, get a hat, rip some britches, dirty yourself a bit and you could pass as a pirate. So Emily decided to go for the more traditional Elizabeth Swann - more traditionally being the proper young lady in a gown. She had asked her father to order a dress for her that fit the one from the movie. She specifically told him that it didn't have to be exact or expensive or anything of that sort; it just had to be recognizable. Emily also asked her father to buy a replica of the aztec gold necklace, just a simple plastic knick-knack. Naturally though, her father took this opportunity to dote upon the only other family member he had.
When Emily first opened the package, she was amazed. It was a beautiful gown! Her father had ordered a dress that was nearly identical to the one from the movie Pirates of the Carribean, Curse of the Black Pearl. Of the course the material was different, there weren't so many layers and there was no corset. Immediately Emily called her father and asked why on earth he got her such a nice make of the dress. She was going to be outside and she'd hate to have something damage it. Her father reassured her that it wasn't that expensive and so on and so forth and to just wear it. Not wanting to put something so lovely to no use, she decided to wear it. If she was going to have such a nice dress though, the rest of her needed to fit the part as well.
For roughly an hour and a half after breakfast, she bathed, blew her hair dry, and spent the rest of the time getting to look as close to Elizabeth's in the movie. When she was finished, she added the necklace and smiled at the way it all came together. She took a few pictures of herself and proceeded to the festivites a little while after they began. As she walked around to take it all in, she wondered how on earth she could top this during her Senior year.
