Teagan was excited to say the least. She had read the bulletin about the Annual Halloween Carnival that was posted in the common room, and had even heard a few people discussing it prior to the message being posted. She didn't know that the school put together such events, but she was looking forward to it. As soon as she read the bulletin, she set to work on her costume. It had taken her about a week to get it all together, and looking at it she felt defeated. It wasn't a costume at all, it was just some of her clothes put together. She hadn't planned for a Halloween event that called for costumes so she didn't have any. She called up her mother and father and begged them to send her something. She wanted to be Tigger, her favourite Disney character (and the reason she was asked to attend the academy). Unfortunately, she didn't like any of the costumes she saw online. They were all big and full body outfits. She didn't like things like that. She thought they made her look weird.
Having told her parents about this as well, when she recieved a package in the mail she was overjoyed. Opening it she found it to be something far too simple. She was expecting a cute-ified tigger outfit, but all she got were Tigger ears and a tail. She also recieved a pair of orange converse which she recognized to be her neighbor's, a pair of orange tiger stripped knee highs and some face paint. With a sigh, she read the letter that came attached to it.
Dear Teagan, we're sorry, but we couldn't get a hold of anything for a Tigger costume save for these few things. We came across one costume, but it was meant for a toddler and online stores didn't offer any that seemed like they were reasonable. We hope you can make this work with some clothes you already have. Enjoy yourself! With love, Mum and Dad.
Fearing that her week and a half long search for something decent would all go to waste, she decided to do what her parents said and work with that she had. She could do that; she was an expert at doing that. She looked at what was laid out on her bed. She had a pair of orange spandex shorts, an orange Under Armour shirt, and she had even went searching around her friends' dorms for orange gloves. She knew that it was October and it would be chilly, so she decided to take some precautions against the cold by also searching intently for an orange and black scarf. The carnival was a day away and she had to make it work without looking like an orange blob. She needed to look like Tigger. She then went through her old clothes that she threw in her trunk before she left for 'just in case' reasons. She pulled out an old black shirt that barely fit her and began to cut stripes out of it. Teagan wasn't a sewer at all, so once again she searched. Finding someone who was, she had them sew the stripes on in a way that was secure, yet the stitches could easily be removed. It would have to do.
When Teagan woke up the next morning it was the day of the carnival. She went through the day asking about peoples' costumes hoping that hers wouldn't end up looking like crap. That was one way she could humiliate herself as a freshman, and she didn't want to. She decided that she would join the carnival later so that she wouldn't have to worry so much about everybody seeing her as they arrive. She was watching all of them though from her dorm window. Some costumes were elaborate and fancy, others were simple little things with people making do with what they had. This made Teagan more comfortable. With a deep breath to calm her unfamiliar worries, she changed into her outfit and stood in front of the mirror. It didn't look that bad actually, and with the ears and the tail and the simple facepaint for her nose and whiskers, she was recognizable as a tiger and maybe even Tigger. She hoped people wouldn't dismiss her as trash because she couldn't get an elaborate costume like some people.
As Teagan made it down to the carnival, she wove in and out of the group of people. She looked at some of the rides, taking note that she wanted to go on each one before the event was over. She watched some classmates play games and win cool prizes. Teagan decided she'd have to have a go at it. She was tempted by the smells as she passed the snack booths. Soon enough her concerns with her simple costume were gone. Now all she needed was a familiar face.
