Woody logged off of his IM, deciding that he was going to make a super effort for Cassie. His mission was to ask Cassie out today as, for once, he wanted a girlfriend and he was determined to show Cam that he didn't just go for blondes. Cassie was sweet, loyal and ever so pretty, which Woody loved about her. She would flirt with him and she would compliment him, but she spent so much time working and studying, it took a lot of effort to get her to come outside with him. Ever since he had come back to school, he had found himself thinking about her differently. She was pretty and Woody wanted to be with her. Maybe if she was with him, she would relax more and be the fun person he knew she was deep down inside. Maybe if he could make everything special, she would see him in the same way. That's all that he wanted.
Woody stood up from his bed, ruffling his hair with his hand and picking up his hat from his chair. He slid it onto his head and scooped up his jacket, barging through his dorm room door and heading towards the kitchen, humming to himself. He smiled, skirting around the girls grouped around the place and made his way into the kitchen. "Hey chef," Woody said politely, lifting up his head and nodding towards her. She nodded back as he headed over to the cupboards, pulling out various ingredients and putting them on the table. He began putting things together, making sandwiches for them both before putting them into a container. He nodded again at the chef as he ran back out, heading down to the river.
He put his jacket down on the ground beside the river, sitting on it and putting the container down beside him. He led down on the grass, putting the hat over his head as he listened the the sound of water running beside him. He smiled to himself, running over what Cam had spoken to him about. He said he was adorably goofy. Was that enough for him to win Cassie over? He wasn't sure, but he could always give it a go.

excited was probably the best way to describe the way that cassie was feeling after her conversation with woody. at the same time though it left her feeling scared because there was always a chance that things could go wrong. cassie loved hanging out with woody, probably more than she liked hanging out with anyone else. she was scared though because she was starting to see him as something more than a friend. she didn't like giving into those kinds of feelings and the fact that she had been able to admit them to herself was probably what scared her the most. her whole life she had hid behind a wall that she had built to protect herself and the fact that woody was probably one of the first people to break down that wall was scary to her. she liked him a lot but she refused to saying anything because she was worried that he might not feel the same way about her. she didn't want to tell him that she liked him and then end up ruining their friendship. so instead she kept her feelings to herself and said nothing. it was probably for the best anyway.
rolling off her bed cassie walked over to the trunk at the foot of her bed where she kept some of her nicer looking clothes. she figured if the word date was mentioned she should at least wear something a little nicer than just her usual jeans and t-shirt. it was still early september so it was nice enough for her to wear a pair of shorts. slipping into a pair of cut off jean shorts and some nice fishnet stockings with a floral pattern on them and a paisley top she looked at herself in the mirror. giving herself a nod of approval she let loose her dark hair and let if fall over her shoulders. she slipped her feet into her favorite brown boots and grabbed her phone before walking out of her dorm and heading down to the river to meet up with woody. she was excited but a bit nervous all at the same time. she had even thought about heading back to her room and texting woody saying that she wasn't feeling well and was just going to stay in her room but then she thought that woody might want to stop by and make sure that she was alright so she figured trying to bail was out of the question.
once she was at the river she looked for woody and found him laying down near the water with his hat over his face. smiling she walked over to him as quietly as possible just because she wanted to sneak up on him. once she had finally made it to the spot where he was she laid down next to him and swipped his hat from him. leaning on her side she looked over at him and smiled. "well howdy there cowboy. are you waiting for little old me?" she propped herself up with one of her arms and placed his hat on her head and smiled. she was glad that she hadn't tried to bail out on hanging out with woody. the minute she was around him she stopped worrying so much about school and anything else that had been on her mind. Woody felt his hat being swiped from his face and frowned, opening his eyes to see the culprit and was very glad to see that it was Cassie who had taken his hat from him. He gave her his friendly smile, turning to face her and leaning his head on his arm. "Howdy there, Cassie. You know, ya'll look good in that hat. Maybe I should get my parents to send one over for you," Woody suggested, his Texas accent slight and hardly noticeable as it was. It only seemed to turn up in a few of his sentences, a few words being from his accent rather than the pretty normal accent he had. He had never had a strong accent but coming to the school had toned it down. At the start of the school term it always seemed to get stronger. "You're getting good at being sneaky. I didn't even hear you come over." He winked at her playfully, reaching over and handing her a container. "Here. I made us some sandwiches. All by my little self. Special enough for you?" He grinned at his friend.
She looked pretty, that much was sure. She had made an effort to look pretty for him which he was very impressed with. She was wearing shorts that he couldn't help but see that it had accentuated her very nice legs. her hair was down in its normal state, something that Woody had always admired about her hair, though he also liked her hair up as it made her seem more studious and much more of a challenge to get to come hang outside with him. It always took him a lot of effort to get her to come outside of her room without any sort of work and he was glad she had decided to today.
"May I say you are looking mighty fine, my princess Cassie?" Woody added, reaching out and twirling a strand of her hair around his finger. "Very, very fine." He winked at her, dropping the curl and sitting himself up, ruffling his hair messily and glancing over at her. "Did you make an effort for me then? Because I am liking them there shorts."

cassie loved woody's accent. she thought it was cute how sometimes it was more noticeable than usual. smiling as he complemented her on how she looked with his hat on a tiny giggle escaped her lips. "you really should cause you just might not get this one back." adjusting herself so that she was laying down on her stomach she looked over at him and smiled, cassie was just full of smiles today and honestly she had no clue why. "that's because i channeled my inner ninja so that i could surprise you." she normally was pretty quiet but when she put in the effort she was so quiet that it was almost scary. smiling when he reached over and handed her the container of sandwiches she opened it and peeked inside. "awe that's so sweet. you know there's nothing i love more than a good sandwich." she smiled and opened the container all the way and pulled out one of the sandwiches. cassie was a pretty simple girl and when she bit into the sandwich and tasted peanut butter and jelly she giggled. covering her mouth with her hand she tried to get the peanut butter unstuck from the roof of her mouth. "haha i see that the summer couldn't make you forget my love for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches." you couldn't go wrong with a peanut butter and jelly, it was the universal sandwich.
normally cassie didn't really take the time to make sure that she looked nice whenever she went out but today was different. it was the start of a new school year, her senior year to be exact and she wanted to make sure that she looked nice. besides, wasn't the summer all about growing up and making changes? she was determined to change during her senior year. she had spent most of her time at j cricket focused only on her schoolwork and barely had time for any of her friends. of course that didn't mean that she wasn't still gonna be focused on her schoolwork. it just meant that she was going to try and balance things out so that she had time for her friends and for her schoolwork. hanging out with woody was the start of her trying to maintain that balance.
cassie couldn't help but blush as woody twirled her hair around his finger and complemented her on the way she looked. brushing any crumbs from her sandwich off her face she hid her face behind her hands so that he wouldn't see how red her cheeks were getting. she was pretty tan but even still cassie was sure that her cheeks were turning very red and she didn't really like when that happened. it was just a bit embarassing. "oh, i just..." she was trying to avoid the question but she was really bad at doing things like that. thinking quickly she sat up and looked out to the river and spotted a couple of ducks. "looks there's ducks swimming on the river." she pointed at them and was glad that she had spotted them. reaching back for the container that had once held the sandwiches but instead now held the crust of cassie's bread she got up and walked to the edge of the water. she had kind of wished that she hadn't worn stockings so that she could put her feet in the water. sighing she sat down on the edge and started breaking up the bread crusts so that she could feed the ducks. "Hey, you. You can't steal Woody's hat. Woody's hat is Woody's and Woody'll go crazy without his hat, you know that," Woody told her in a playful tone, though he was more than sure she knew that he would not be good without his hat. It was his link with home and without it Woody always felt lost and alone. It was strange how that little piece of clothing could make him feel less homesick. He guessed it was because it was from his mother and father. "Your inner ninja, huh? Well I could do with some of the inner ninja to not get caught tonight when I sneak in to see certain people at midnight tonight," Woody told her, grinning innocently at her. "Not that I would ever do that, would I? I'm a good boy." He winked at her, giving her a playful smile. "Well, then, you're very welcome. I just wanted to make you something special and all I could think of was picnic. Strange, I know, but I like being outside and I like picnics. So, here you go!" He laughed as she had trouble with the peanut butter. "How could I ever forget my Cassie's favourite sandwich?"
Woody smiled slightly as she blushed at his compliment. If she was blushing, that must be a good sign, mustn't it? He hoped that it was as she hid her face behind her hand. He chuckled, shaking his head at the young girl. He was quick to notice the sudden change in topic and rolled his eyes slightly as she moved away from him. He ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. "Cass..." Woody drawled, moving over to sit beside her and looking at her feeding the ducks. "Cassie, I wanna say something and when I say it, I want you to answer me truthfully, alright? Because I want to know what you really think on the matter, but don't you go all weird on me because I hate when people do that, and I've never done this sort of thing before." He turned his head to look at Cassie. "Cassie, I've found myself looking at you differently this year and I was wondering whether, you know, you wanted to give it a go. You and me. Together."

cassie laughed when woody started talking about his hat. she knew how much it meant to him and would never really take it. "haha yeah i know that woody'll go crazy without his hat. what cassie doesn't understand though is why woody is talking about himself in the third person. cassie thinks that woody might be going just a little bit crazy." laughing she took his hat off her head and placed it back on his. she knew exactly how it felt to miss home, which was the main reason why she never took off her sparrow necklace that she wore around her neck. it was given to her by her father years ago when she was a little girl and she'd always worn it. her father had meant so much to her and he had always been the one to encourage her dreams and to inspire her. the sparrow meant a lot to her so she knew exactly how woody felt about his hat. it would kill her if anything ever happened to her necklace. shaking her head at him when he said he was going to sneak into someone's window she grabbed a small twig from the ground and tossed it at him playfully. "you better not be talking about trying to sneak into my room. megan and angel would kill you if you tried sneaking into our room." giggling she shook her head. "no of course not. you're totally innocent and i'm the queen of england." of course there was a touch of sarcasm in her voice. there was no way that he was a good boy. leaning over to kiss him on the cheek cassie finished of her sandwich and smiled. "well it was really sweet of you to not only remember my favorite sandwich but to plan this cute little picnic." it really was sweet of him to do something so special for her, especially when she felt like she didn't deserve it.
cassie knew that the way she avoided the question probably wasn't the best way to handle it but it was the only thing that she could think of. as she tossed bread crumbs into the water she didn't even need to turn around to know that woody was moving to sit next to her. she was bit scared of what he might say and honestly she wasn't sure that she wanted to hear it. she liked woody a lot but she was scared of trusting him. she knew that he was a bit of a flirt and she was scared that his flirting with other girls would end up becoming something more. as he spoke she turned so that she was sitting facing him to make things easier for her. looking up at him when he asked her to be totally honest with him she became worried about what he might say when she said what she honestly felt. but then she heard him ask if she wanted to be with him. she could feel her cheeks turning a bright red all over again and she wanted to hide her face but she knew that it probably wasn't the best way to handle the situation. instead she gathered up as much courage as she had inside her and told him exactly what she had been thinking. "honestly woody, i think that would be amazing and i would love to..." her voice trailed off as she looked down at her hands. she was more scared that she had ever been before and she didn't know what he was going to say. "but i know you better than most and you know me better than most so you probably know that i'm shaking in my boots right now." she looked back up at him with a very serious face on. "how do i know that i can trust you? woody you know me better than anyone else and you know that i have issues trusting people. i don't want you to be one of those people that i trusted who ended up letting me down. honestly i don't think that i would be able to take it if i trusted you and you let me down." "Woody is talking about himself in the third person to emphasize his point," Woody explained simply, giving her a cheeky grin as his hat was placed back on his head. He tilted the ridge up so that his dark chocolate brown eyes could look at Cassie properly. "And Woody has been crazy since the day he was born and he's pretty sure that Cassie already knows that." He winked at her, pretending to yelp as she threw a twig at him over his comment of climbing into someone's room. "My Cassie, do you think I would ever sneak into your room? I would never dream of such a thing. Angel would actually stab me more than she already wants to when I dropped her that one time by accident," Woody explained, smiling at her. "It'll be Jessie's room I'm sneaking into and it almost always is, unless you want me to sneak into your room tonight?" Woody raised an eyebrow at her with a playful smile. He knew that Cassie didn't really like getting in trouble that much but she seemed to make an exception for Woody, though that seemed to happen a lot to him. He wasn't sure why that was but it tended to work out that way. "You're the Queen of England? Oh your majesty!" He made a show of bowing in front of her before giving a deep laugh. "Alrighty, maybe I'm not so innocent." He put a hand against his cheek as she kissed it. "I've been blessed by a kiss from my Cassie," he teased, smiling in a friendly manner.
Woody listened to her intently, reaching over and taking hold of both her hands in his as she spoke. So, she was willing to give it a go but it was the whole trust thing. He cleared his throat, squeezing her hands in his with a reassuring smile. "Cassie you've known me since, well, the start of this school and you know that no matter what happens, I will defend my friends to the bitter end. I'm very loyal and I would never dream of being with another girl whilst out with you. I care about you too much to do that to you, let alone any other girl. I may be a terrible flirt, but only when I'm single. I'd never wanna hurt my Cassie," Woody told her truthfully, keeping her hands in his. "I'd never let you down. You know me well enough to trust that, and who better could you trust than someone you've known for almost four years now?" He moved himself closer to her, keeping hold of her hands. "I swear, for as long as we both shall live, I will not let you down or hurt you. I care about you so much that I wouldn't even dream about it."

"well if that's the case then cassie thinks that woody should stop talking about himself in the third person because cassie gets the point already." if it were any other person cassie probably would have thought the whole talking in the third person thing was stupid. woody was the exception to most things in her life by now though. smiling at him cassie brushed some loose strands of hair out of her face. "oh cassie's knows that woody is crazy. it's one of the reasons why cassie likes woody so much. being normal is just far too over rated." which was the truth. even though for the most part cassie was very serious about things she was a little weird on the inside because being normal was just far too over rated for her liking. no one was every really normal, at least that's what cassie thought. cassie laughed when woody asked if she wanted him to sneak into her room tonight. she thought about it for a second and then decided against it. her roommates would probably kill him if he climbed in through their window in the middle of the night. "well considering my roommates would probably kill you i think i'll pass on that offer for tonight. i don't needs megan and angel trying to kill my favorite cowboy." cassie knew how close him and jessie were so she didn't really question why he was sneaking into her room.
feeling his hands take hers cassie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. she listened to everything that he had to say and she could feel her eyes starting to water up just a little bit. she really wanted to trust him. hell she had known him long enough and he had never given her any reason to not trust him. there was something deep inside of her telling her to give things with woody a shot. she really had nothing to loose and possibly everything to gain. her mom had always told her that she should put herself out there more and to try dating. here she was with opportunity presenting itself and she really couldn't think of anything to say. "i know you wouldn't and i really wanna believe you woody, i really do and there's something inside me telling me that everything you're saying is true." still holding onto one of his hands she took her other hand and wiped her eyes. she wasn't crying but she could feel the tears gathering up in her eyes. "something inside me is telling me that you mean everything that you say and i think i'm gonna listen to that little voice inside of me for once." looking up at him she managed a tiny little smile before brushing her hair out of her face with her hand. “Woody agrees because it is really hard to remember to talk in the third person, especially when you are talking about yourself,” Woody told her, laughing and shaking his head. “It’s harder than you think, talking in third person. I would have thought it would have been easier.” He nodded in agreement about her saying he is crazy. “I am the crazy guy that climbs in through windows at midnight just for a chat, remember?” he pointed out, giving her the brightest and most innocent smile he could muster. “Being normal is for boring people. I would rather live my life being crazy, than get old and realise I’ve done nothing risky at all.” He brushed some grass off of his jeans. “Who doesn’t want to be adventurous, after all? Even Cam comes out with me every so often. It’s like once a year, but it’s still better than not at all.” He tapped his chin in thought, before his eyes widened and he leaned forward, childlike excitement on his face. “If I can’t sneak into your room, why don’t you sneak into my room? Just this once. You know I like having midnight talks. Pretty please with sugar on top?” He gave her his charming smile, hoping to sway her into spending the night in his room. He always found he slept better with someone else there in his bed with him. It was the whole comforting feeling of it. “I’m the only cowboy in this school, I’ll have ya’ll know,” Woody pointed out, heightening his Texas accent on purpose with a tip of his cowboy hat.
Woody moved his free hand, brushing her hair behind her ear and holding a sincere look towards her. He knew when to be serious and when to joke. To be honest, this was going a hell of a lot better than he had first anticipate, something which he was very glad about actually. “Then believe me, Cassie. I wouldn’t hurt you. I couldn’t do it. I care about you too much to do that. It’d crush me to see you hurt. You know that, right?” Woody told her, tilting her chin up to look at him. “I always mean everything I say, no matter what the consequences are.” He gave her a small smile back as she said that she would give it a go. “Thank you, Cassie. For trusting me.” [/blockquote]
