Peter wandered into the library, his eyebrows raised and his mouth turned down into a frown. It smelled funny in the library like...books and the absence of fun. The library surely wasn't a place you could usually find Peter Panning Newman, but today he was looking for someone. He made his way up to a mousy looking girl and cleared his throat."Excuse me but, uh...do you know where people study here?" The question was answered with a laugh as the girl took off in the opposite direction, a stack of book in her hand. Peter frowned at this. "I was being serious!" he called after her. A grouchy looking old woman 'shh'ed him and Peter frowned, sticking his tongue out at her back.
He sighed and took of through the rows of books on his own, scratching his head. How could people stand all of these books? He understood that books could take you new places, but he would rather go to those places. He would rather spend his days finding things to explore and showing his friends all that he'd found. There was nothing Peter loved more than showing something extraordinary to a friend. Speaking of friends, he smiled as he noticed that familiar mass of black hair.
As he slid into the chair beside Cassie, he smirked, leaning in towards her. "How do you stand it in here, Cass? I've only been here, what, five seconds and I've already upset...well...probably everyone," he laughed, grateful to be with a familiar face. Particularly Cassie, who was one of the more serious people he enjoyed spending time with.

sure school had only started a couple days ago but already cassie was in the library studying so that she made sure her grades didn't slip below the 3.7 gpa that she had worked so hard to achieve. there weren't all that many people in the library but there normally never was. cassie was used to the silence of the place which was why she liked going there to study. for once though she wasn't really all that focused on her studies, though she knew she should have been. before the start of the school year cassie had promised herself that she would let loose a little bit and have some fun. so far she had been doing pretty good. she wasn't taking things as seriously as she used too and was actually making a lot more friends. she had been finishing up a drawing that she had been working on when she heard the librarian shhing somebody. putting down her colored pencils cassie looked up to see who the poor unlucky kid was. she smiled and giggled a little bit under her breath when she saw that it was her adorable pseudo brother peter. her smile grew even wider when she saw him coming her way.
laughing as he asked how she was able to in in the library cassie pushed her hair out of her face. "because my dearly adorable pseudo little brother some of us who actually care about school and getting good grades like the quiet and come in here to study." she loved peter but sometimes his childish ways made cassie want to beat him up, all out of love of course. he was a good way of balancing out her serious side with her fun side though, the kid always knew how to put a smile on her face. "you should try studying sometime. who knows you might actually learn something." poking his nose she went back to her drawing and giggled. she was glad that peter had decided to make his way to the library, it was starting to get awful boring just sitting there by herself. "so how was you're summer peter? i heard through the grapevine that you and faye are finally dating." new traveled fast around j cricket and honestly cassie couldn't have been happier for peter and faye. they two of them looked so cute together that even before they had actually started dating they looked like a couple. His grades, of course, were horrible. "Blech. Who goes to school to actually learn things? And quiet is boring. Cass, you should be outside running around and being productive! It's your senior year, after all." He would never understand why Cassie preferred to study. Yes, she had big dreams, but she was wicked smart already. And determined, and stubborn, and intimidating. In his mind, that was all she needed to get herself where she wanted. He would need to work more, yeah, but he could work later. He was still young! Youth was the time to have fun and party! Even just sitting in the library, Peter could feel the fun seeping from him. He shuddered slightly, disliking the quiet. If there was one thing Peter hated, it was silence. Which was why he constantly surrounded himself with talkative people, or people in general. But he'd wanted to see Cassie, to catch up with her. He laughed when she suggested he could learn something, earning him another 'shh' from the librarian. He glared at her back and whispered to Cassie, "Geez, she's crabby. But me? Learn something? That'll be the day."
Peter was astonished. Had she really already heard about his new relationship with Faye? The news both angered and pleased him. On one hand, it was no ones business but his and Faye's. On the other hand, people were talking about them already? That had to be a record. It pleased him that people cared that much. Of course no one could be as pleased with the situation as he was. At the memory, he broke into a wide grin. "The news got to you too, huh? Yeah, it's official. Paye is what people are calling us, I think. Keep tellin' me we're adorable, and that they saw it comin'....but to answer your first question, my summer sucked," Peter said cheerily. "The home they sent me too this time was a ranch. They woke me up at five, Cass. Five in the morning. Every morning."

cassie loved peter. he was so adorable and full of childish energy. he was a good balance for her because whenever he was around there was always a good time to be had. of course she wished that he took school a little more seriously but it wasn't something that she really bothered him about, she was his friend not his mother after all. "um, a lot of people actually. you'd be surprised to know my dear peter that school was invented for learning things." looking up at him she smiled. "oh but i am being productive. i'm working on schoolwork. that's being very productive. besides i went out with woody the other day so that has to count for something." she was actually quite glad that she had been going out for once in her life. first it had been the slumber party the week they came back to school and then woody had invited her on a picnic down by the river. that honestly had to count for something. "i think it's part of being a librarian, they have to be crabby or they just aren't doing their job right. pff, peter i know somewhere inside that head of yours you have a brain and i bet you're pretty smart too if you would pay attention in class."
from what she had heard most people were really happy that peter and faye were finally dating, because honestly the two were so madly in love it was driving everyone else crazy that they weren't dating. the two of them were just meant for each other, that was pretty much the way cassie saw it. she didn't really know faye but she seemed like an alright girl. as long as peter was happy with her faye was alright in cassie's book. "oh but you guys are adorable and everyone did see it coming. seriously you guys were more than friends from the start. it was pretty obvious to just about everyone but you guys. i'm really happy for you though peter, you deserve to be happy." she smiled at him as she brushed her bangs out of her face. shaking her head and laughing as peter told her about his summer she stuck her tongue out at the librarian who passed by shh-ing them again. "good, a little hard work might just do you some good peter. a ranch huh? sounds like fun actually. was it like a cattle ranch or something?" He knew that school was important, as he was told this by his counselor almost weekly, but he felt as though there was so much more to life than school. There were friends, adventures, and almost anything besides school. But he admired Cassie for her devotion to school and her grades. He knew that someday she'd go on to great things. As for Peter's future, he hadn't figured it out quite yet. He was very bright, it was true, he just didn't apply himself. He had many connections due to his foster families so he wasn't too worried. "Well, those people are missing out. And, my dear Cassie, is where you're actually mistaken. School was invented so that adults could ship their kids off for nine months out of the year and not have to worry about them," Peter said. He was a little bitter about the parent subject, and he tried not to let it show often, but he knew Cassie wouldn't judge him for his little slip-up. He raised his eyebrows when she mentioned her rendevouz with Woody, though. "Tim Wood, huh? Was it a daaaaaate Cassie?" he asked with a grin. "Does someone else have some news they'd like to share?"
Peter was pleased that people had accepted his relationship with Faye. There were a few girls who were put out, and he was sure plenty of men were cursing him all over j. cricket. Everyone had known he and Faye were in love? He didn't believe that. Or maybe he did. Faye had known all along that she loved him, after all. It appeared that he was the only one who hadn't known about how he and Faye were destined to be together. That fact annoyed him a little bit, but he overlooked it, glad that he knew now. "Well maybe she was more than my friend from the start. I seriously thought we were just best friends, though. Is it really so weird for a boy and a girl to be just best friends? No. It's not. But thank you, Cass. You deserve happiness too. More than anyone I know," Peter said with a smile, patting his friends hand. He frowned as Cassie laughed at him, however. "It was not fun, it was horrible! And yes, it was a cattle ranch. They had sheep too, though. And horses. God, I hate those horses."
