Emily wasn't the kind of girl to break the rules any chance she got. That's not to say she didn't break rules though because in her never ending quest for adventure, she always seemed to do something that was frowned upon. Tonight was a different kind of adventure. She wasn't out to discover something new, meet a new person or get a thril some other way. This adventure was a lot calmer and it meant a lot more to her. So perhaps it wasn't considered an adventure. It required some things that an adventure would though; bravery, desire, and a bit of nervousness accompanied Emily as she set out on her way. It was late, past curfew, exactly 12:42 in the morning and Emily didn't know what to do with herself. She wanted to do some deep thinking and where else could she do that besides a place she wouldn't be found easily? There was only one place that could be, and that was the roof. While the roof was often checked in the evening for stragglers looking for a view of the night sky, it was far past the time for rounds. Still, Emily left her dorm room in silence. She tiptoed down the hall and out of the Regius common room. Once she was in the hallway, she walked at a more normal pace. In seemingly no time at all, she made it to the stairwell leading to the roof. Emily knew that this was the dangerous part of her little mission to peace; the stairs creaked and in the silence of the night, that was when it was the most likely to be heard. Luckily for Emily, she he had taken precautions to prepare herself for the noise. She ascended slowly up the stairs and made sure to shift her weight slowly. It was an unecessary precaution really considering the nearest staff suite was on the other side of the floor. Still, Emily didn't want to risk it; it was too early in the year for any trouble to make it's way on her record. Once on the little balcony, she began climbing on the actual roof, there was a just a little over hang which was where she began to climb. She didn't know why she did it all considering she was terrified of heights and once she was in a comfortable spot she refused to move in fear of sliding and falling off of the roof. It was the thrill of it that made her do it though, and it was a nice place to think beneath the stars. So she began thinking. Emily regretted remaining in her pajamas without thinking to grab a sweatshirt or wearing sweatpants. She was wearing plaid pajama shorts and a tank top instead. Her hair was in a messy bun on the top of her head. The air was on the colder side so Emily hugged her knees to her chest to try to keep herself a bit warmer. If it weren't for her bright eyes that showed her alertness as she surveyed the heavens above, she looked like she could fall asleep on the spot. && THIS TEMPLATE WAS MADE BY ALLIE. && the outfit is this little getup. && the lyrics are from "first time," by lifehouse. && all i've got to say is that this thread is closed for Jayne Sparrow!

Rope ladders swaying in the breeze, the occasional loose roof shingle, it was all the same to Jayne as he prowled across the rooftops of school. His sense of balance was uncanny. Falling from the boats as a boy and getting an icy splash down was a good enough teacher for him. Heights didn't much perturb the seventeen year old either. He paused from time to time, reaching a tall peak and taking in the view. A rolling sea of green, Jayne sighed as he clung to the iron weather vane, swinging gently back and forth. He was straining his eyes to see a speck of blue. The river was easy enough to see from up here, the lazy thing snaking through the countryside. But, it was no ocean and that more than enough for a second disheartened sigh from Jayne. He took off again, clambering along the peaks and spires on the building.
His mind was in a similar place, traveling back home. This year had been the hardest to come back. More now than ever, there's been a strange pull to go do something great, something outlandish. He couldn't put a finger on what it was yet though and that was intensely frustrating. His best thinking was always done at home on one of the boats, never in the classrooms here. He already knew he wasn't going back home. He loved his family, but that wasn't where his heart was pulling him to. The quiet fishing town in the north wasn't where he would make his mark on the world.
It had been hard to focus in class already. He always got antsy at the end of the year, but he was getting that itch in his fingers. Restless. Jayne needed to get out. He needed to clear his head and try to get his cloudy thoughts and dreams into some sort of sense. Sliding down a steep bit of room, he landed on his knees as he came to a leveled off place again. Lying flat on his stomach, Jayne stared off. His mind traveling again, he nearly let it turn loose when he heard the rustling of twigs and leaves a little down and away from him. Sinking down in case of some late night patrol he had forgotten about, he peeked his dark haired head up after a few moments. A warm smirk flitted over his lips as he recognised just who it was.
He wasn't surprised that the 'proper' girl was up here. Her desire for adventure was palpable from the moment Jayne had crosses paths with Emily. Their first encounter hadn't been the best of first impressions, Jayne was never one for first impressions. But Emily had surprised him. She wasn't hardly the quiet little goody he thought she would be. She was ... interesting.
Standing up, Jayne dusted the shingle dust off his knees and ran a hand through his longish hair. He fixed the collar of his dark blue jacket that he wore everywhere and headed over toward the nook Emily had made for herself. He whistled before getting too close so as not to startle her too terribly. Bowing slightly as he got closer, he settled himself beside her.
"Miss Swann, quite late to be out, inin't?" Jayne asked, his smile firmly on his face.

Emily had a million thoughts whizzing around her head. She didn't like it. She wanted her thoughts to be organized and filed away so she could pull them out one by one as she was ready for them. Instead, one thing led to another which tied to another which led to another which had no relation to the original thought at all! Just thinking about thinking about such things was exhausting. Emily wished that one day she would just shut down for a little while and not be itching for adventure or wondering about something. If that day were to ever come it would be when she was being lowered into the earth dead and cold in a casket.
Just thinking about her disordered mind made her think of Cameron. He was rather organized and Emily admired him for it. He was composed and reasonable; He was Emily's voice of reason. She smiled to the stars just thinking about the day they had spent together. He had taught her to dance, he had leveled the battlefield between Emily and her father when she told him of their latest argument. He was just so wonderful! Unfortunately, thinking about the earlier moments of the day they spent together made her think of her father and how unreasonable he was. But then she thought of how reasonable Cam was, and she went back and forth between the conflict she was facing with her father and the wonderful solution that Cameron was. She didn't know what she would do if her father pulled her out of school for more campaigning; she would miss Cameron a lot more than she thought. She didn't want to think about these things in a jumble though; she wanted to think about things one at a time.
Just as she was starting to get organized she heard a whistle which shook her out of her thoughts completely, and made her perk up a little bit. She was worried that a guard was patrolling or something. Then she thought for a moment and realized that that wasn't a smart idea. If it was somebody patrolling that would be like a warning to anyone who was sneaking out; it was like yelling at them to hide and quick. So she remained perked up, but didn't dare move. She wondered if she would have even tried to hide if somebody was patrolling. Hearing soft footsteps approaching she turned and looked in the direction of the source only to find a familiar young man taking a seat beside her. "Oh hello," she smiled. Jayne had always confused her. She didn't know what to think of him. Emily hated this sort of unknown because her mind had a tendency to wander and turn it into something that it wasn't.

Jayne took a quick look at Emily as he sat down. Pulling his bony knees in and wrapping an arm around them, he would wager half a guess that not all was right in his friend's world. It bothered him when people he was actually fond of had something perturbing them. And there was definitely something strange in the air surrounding Emily. He hadn't the foggiest idea what it was though. It wasn't like she could be having family troubles. Not with the piles of money he was certain they had hidden away. Probably some class stress, he supposed. He didn't know how to fix that. He had a hard enough time dealing with that himself. Glancing back out over the green sea, his mind drifted again and he sighed.
"I debated about not comin' back this year," Jayne said, not glancing back to Emily. "I spent the whole summer with Dad out on the water," Jayne beamed. "It's the only place I can 'ear my thoughts proper," he added with a light laugh looking back to Emily.
He nearly invited Emily up ever summer for the past three summers. He thought it might be something she'd enjoy. His mother's sense, however, always stopped him just before the words could get past his lips. Emily would probably just shake her head and laugh. And while Jayne would just shrug it off seemingly quickly, it would have hurt if she did. Maybe over the Spring break? Maybe not. His head felt overly stuffed. Too many thoughts were vying for his instant attention.
"We got caught up in a storm though, somethin' fierce. Nearly crashed. Saw me life flash before my eyes," Jayne continued, his thoughtful tone turning more joking. "Would you have missed me much?" He asked with a broad smile. He was really quite fond of Emily. She seemed to get him on occasion. And when they were on different wavelengths, she was very fun to pick at. He was careful not to pick at too much though. Emily's slap tended to sting too long afterward.
"How about your day, then?"

Emily was glad for the company. The idea of thinking in silence was lost. She already knew that there was no way it'd work out for her in the end, she couldn't keep herself straight. She wanted Cameron to come and organize her mind for her so that she didn't have to think about thinking anymore. However, Jayne did the same thing in a different way. Emily didn't have to think about thinking around him, but she did. She was just so content and calm, but he played mind games with her sometimes. She wondered if he was aware of this because she certainly was. It wasn't that she was on her guard against him, but she was simply more aware of it. They were just good friends though, and Emily had a tendency to get frustrated with herself because of him. And naturally, her thinking that she couldn't keep straight. Emily listened to Jayne; he had a way with words that just made people listen even if he was making up a bizarre story. The accent was just an added effect. It was like he had read her mind and knew that it was all a jumble. As he spoke about the water Emily wondered what it would be like spending that much time at sea. She had been on boats, naturally, and greatly enjoyed it, however she had never spent more than a few hours on the water. The idea of him almost not returning made her sink some. She liked the times they just hung around because he was just a fun guy to be around. She didn't know what she would do if she showed up at school and he just wasn't there. The thought was scary to think about! Then a thought dawned on her, she was friends with a lot of seniors, and she would have to walk into the academy in the following year and not be able to see them. It was heartbreaking, really. At word of the storm Emily suddenly became worried, although it was apparent nothing bad had happened, afterall Jayne was right before her. It still scared her because that was worse than him not coming back to school! "Oh, that's horrible!" she exclaimed, "but I'm glad you're alright." At the question about whether she'd miss him she grinned and nudged him a little bit. "Of course I'd miss you! What kind of friend would I be if I didn't?" The idea of him being gone for good was still in her mind and she didn't want to think about it. She wanted to play it off as nothing, but Emily knew that something like that was most definately not nothing. "I would've missed you if you didn't come back this year, so if you were gone! I wouldn't be able to handle it," she confessed putting her head in her hands and shaking her head a little bit. Then she brushed the light brown whisps of hair out of her eyes and let out a bit of a sigh, her head still spinning. Emily didn't want to continue with morbid thoughts, so she answered the question, hoping her answer would replace these negative thoughts. "It was a... really good day," she grinned thinking back on it. "It started off horrible though," she began her story, "my father and I got into a bit of an argument; he wants to pull me out of classes for campaign reasons which naturally I don't agree with. But then I saw Cameron and he calmed me down." She smiled, wondering how Jayne would take her latest news, "he even taught me to dance." && THIS TEMPLATE WAS MADE BY ALLIE. && the outfit is this little getup. && the lyrics are from "first time," by lifehouse.
