If only his mind didn't work in such an odd way, Jayne would probably be an honor student. He just can't seem to keep his head buried in a book when there's just so much life to live. He grew up being taught to take life by the horns, get out there and just go where his heart would take him. At least, that's the philosophy his father imprinted in his brain. It's a good thing his mother is there to anchor the pair of them. The only authority figure Jayne will mind, she's the one person Jayne respects without question or reservation. Everyone else, he tends to hold at arms length until he can get a read on them. He tends to give little respect to those he doesn't consider on his playing field and definitely not until they've earned it. Jayne is very ambitious and likes to befriend those he thinks will be a help to him later on...or right then, depends on the situation. He loves finding people's buttons and then occasionally pushing them, just for fun. People he likes, he tends to do it on a more frequent basis. Those he can't stand, though, he tends to ignore entirely.
He's a quick thinker, always trying to be two steps ahead of everyone else. And while he would claim that his savvy mind skills are beyond those around him, it's hardly true. Jayne manages to conveniently forget those times. He has a severe problem of
He likes to be around people, they fuel him and just make him feel alive. While he does need a few days every now and then to himself, he's always glad to be back in the midst of things. He's a creative sort. Usually there's more sketch paper in his bag than note paper. He doesn't claim to be a 'serious' artist, but he does like drawing. Switch out his pencil for a set of drumsticks and he will deafen the entire room beating away on a drum kit. He likes to joke and just have a good time with like minded people. He doesn't trust easily though. His actual close friends are few. They've seen Jayne be sincere and soft. He does wear an overconfident facade. It's just easier. At home, out on the sea, Jayne is far calmer. Around his tiny cousins, Jayne almost tender. That side rarely leaks out at school, but there have been odd brief flashes of that quiet nature.

BRIEF HISTORY:
Jayne was born in a seaside town. An unremarkable house but a lively home. He grew up on the docks and on his father's fishing boat. At least during the summer. His mother had to drag him out of bed during the school months. Jayne did decently enough in his studies but was often in trouble for daydreaming. He always said he felt uncomfortable being trapped indoors for so much of the day. He really felt at home on the boats. The sea was hypnotic to the young brown eyed boy. A spirited boy, Jayne was always running around town with a small group of friends, launching adventures and raising small bits of terror and mischief. The constable was constantly bringing Jayne back home by the ear. While his mother sent the whelp off to his loft, his father wore a quiet smirk.
When the letter came, he and his parents were both rather confused and surprised. His mother was all for sending Jayne, the more schooling the better. Jayne and his father were both reluctant about the whole affair. But in the end, her good sense and reason saw the enrollment through. Jayne hated his first year there but has grown rather attached to the place. While he'll always feel the most comfortable out on the sea, he does feel oddly enough at home here.
