Natalie walked on the grounds back to her dorm. She had just finished another session of cheerleading practice. Being a cheerleader wasn't as easy as everyone thought it was. It required flexability, energy, and of course a beautiful body to fit into the uniform. Most were exhausted after practice. Natalie was a bit tired but she could still feel the energy inside her. She always wondered why she was so energetic and hyper. Many people found it adorable and enjoyed it. While others found it extreemely annoying. Not like Nat blamed them, even she knew her energy could be frustrating to deal with. But it was who she was and she wouldn't change because some people found her unbearable.
Natalie walked to her dorm in her cheerleading uniform, her blonde hair was in a curly high-ponytail. She looked around wondering what people thought when they saw her. Did they see a preppy fun girl. Or did they see a dumb cheerleader who was extreemely annoying. Natalie hated being judged. Many thought she was stupid because of her blonde hair and the fact she was a cheerleader. Natalie wasn't stupid, she had a B average. If she failed then she would not be able to stay on the squad so shouldn't that cancel out those judgements? Natalie sighed, hating the judgements of people who didn't even know her. She told herself she didn't care but she sort of did.
She was distracted by her thoughts that she didn't even notice her surrondings. The side of her foot hit a huge trash barrel. She fell to the ground. Natalie felt her face heat up immediatly. She could tell she was blushing. Did she seriously just fall in front of all these people. She was never going to hear the end of this. She heard footsteps come towards her. She hoped it would be some nice person to help her. She considered herself kind of popular. People did like her so there was no reason for them to be rude. She stood up and brushed off her skirt slightly.

YOU DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER fast cars && freedom , "LAST, run through guys, and then we're done!" Annie called out to her girls (and guys) enthusiastically. It was a bad habbit she had gotten into, calling the squad 'hers'. Just because she was captain didn't mean that it was automatically hers, and she knew that. She knew that the squad consisted of many girls who each contributed something different. Still, it gave her a sense of pride to have the final say over the group of girls. Calling them 'hers' was the only bit of authority that she really displayed when she was having a conversation with somebody. Annie was actually a pretty fair captain. She tried her hardest not to hold one person's voice above anothers, and she made sure that everybody's strengths were displayed. She really didn't want to make a show of pride - especially since she was only a sophomore, and normally the captains' positions were reserved for upperclassmen.
"FIVE, six, seven, eight!" she called out, her pearly whites shining as she worked on her facials. Then the world was in motion as girls danced, flew, and hit their marks. Persperation was evident in the air and it was difficult to tell if it was because of the heat radiating off of their bodies or because they were - as always - nailing their marks in the gym where persperation stained the air regardless of whether there was anybody present or not. Still, Annie knew the girls and guys were working hard. It was preseason, but they needed to be perfect for the first football game of the season, and for their first competition which was even earlier than the first game. Everybody knew when the line should be drawn at practice however, and they had been in the gym for the past three. Some cheerleaders were still peppy as ever - Annie included, while others were noticeably starting to drag their toes (mainly the freshmen who weren't used to the intensity quite yet). So after the final hits, practice drew to a close.
AFTER Annie got her bag together and finished off her water bottle, she waved by to everybody and left. She wore black shorts and had been practicing in a pink sports bra, but she pulled a tanktop over her head as she walked out. Some girls opted to practice in uniform, others in a shirt and shorts, others half and half. Annie found the mix refreshing like the fresh air hitting her face as she left. Unfortunately, it was early August so the weather was still hot and muggy so it wasn't as refreshing as it could've been. She caught sight of a fellow cheerleader taking a tumble though, and so naturally Annie rushed over. "Natalie, are you alright?" she asked, genuine concern in her voice.

As Natalie started to walk again she heard a familiar voice of concern behind her. At least it wasn't anyone who she hated. But it was embarassing that her cheer captain caught her during her clumsy moment. But then again it was Annie. Annie was a year younger than her but was very sweet. Natalie enjoyed being in Annie's company. She was someone who kept her in shape and also kept her from causing too much trouble. While Natalie helped her loosen up a bit and have fun. It was like they completed each other and helped to fix each others flaws. They evened each other out, and Annie definately wasn't someone who would use that fall against her.
She turned around and gave the brunette a small smile. She gave a small nod. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just sort of zoning out, which is weird because I usually am down-to-earth. But I am perfectly fine. It is going to take more than one fall to hurt this girl." Nat said with a small smile and a small laugh. She put on a brave face. Tripping wasn't the end of the world. Everyone had their moments. Besides, Nat was tired from all the dancing. She never understood why people said cheerleading was easy. They never knew and would never know until they tried. Like any of them would have the capability to make it anyway.
"So what's going on with you Annie? By the way, great job coaching us at practice today. You are definatly born to be a leader. We are going to be amazing at the first game and at the competition." Natalie said with a smile. Most of the girls were nervous and scared. Natalie was very excited. She had a great feeling about it, they were so going to win. With dancers as skilled as herself on the team, people with amazing leadership like Annie, and all those stunts, there was no way they would be defeated. Hello championship.

YOU DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER fast cars && freedom , WHEN Natalie gave Annie a smile, she smiled back with some relief in her eyes. It would've been terrible if Natalie was injured because not only would they have to make some changes cheer wise, but then Annie would feel bad. Of course, that wasn't the only reason Annie had been concerned. Annie and Natalie were friends, and Annie didn't like to see anybody struggle. Granted, this little tumble was simple that: little. It wasn't as if she could seriously hurt herself. Perhaps a bruise which may make a few of the dance moves uncomfortable was all that would arise from the fall, if anything was evident at all. Everything seemed alright though, which was always a good thing. "That's always great to hear," Annie responded with a solid nod and her ever bright smile. She loved it when people were resilient, and even if they weren't, she loved it all the more when they put on a brave face.
ANNIE couldn't help but look down with a shy smile on her face. She didn't blush unless she was embaressed, and she just became shy when she was recieving a compliment. Looking back up she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and let out a breath, "oh, thanks! I was worried about being captain, you know." She began to explain; she had a habbit of ranting after recieving a compliment, as if she were trying to humble herself. It wasn't forced or stuck up, it was just her natural response. "I was worried about becoming - or seeming like - one of those snotty girls. I just don't want you upperclass men to look down on me, and I don't want the freshmen to hate me. I want a level playing ground..." Realizing her little rant, she cut herself off. All of what she had said was true though. She knew there was a senior girl who had a strong disliking towards her. Annie had been receiving the death glare from this senior for the last half hour after every practice. As long as it was only one person, she figured she could deal.
ONCE anybody mentioned cheerleading, Annie was off with the chatter, and if she wasn't chatting, her mind was off with new ideas. It was no different when somebody mentioned competition or the first game. She just gained so much excitement and energy. "We really are!" she agreed enthusiastically, "I just love the way it's coming together; Everybody's so sharp, and I love it when people bring their personality into it!" A lot of that had been happening today; it seemed like they were taking leaps and bounds with improvement. Natalie seemed particularly on top of it today, which was really no surprise to Annie because she was always on key. "I think you're the freshmen dancers' inspiration," she joked, yet was being completely serious at the same time. Natalie had great facials, so much energy, was a great dancer, and brought the personality; she was a great example.
"ANYWAY, not much - I was just going to take a walk to let my body cool down before heading home for a shower," she wrapped up her little speech bubble. Then she added with a grin, "I need one. What about you?" TEMPLATE [C] ALLIE. LYRICS [C] R.FLATTS <3

Natalie nodded. Annie was just so sweet and caring. It was sort of adorable how shy she got when Nat complimented her, a compliment that was well deserved for all her hard work each and every day. For her patience with the team and the confidence. Something that Natalie would never be able to manage. She was surprised that Annie even had time for other things with all that work. Natalie nodded as Annie ranted. "I know what that is like. Trust me, I get judged all the time for one of those girls. Just because I am blonde and a cheerleader doesn't mean I am like that." Nat said getting in some of her own ranting into the conversation. People could be cruel and judgemental. Nat had to admit, she was also a bit judgemental at times. Which was sort of hyprocritical for someone who hated to be judged. It was something she had to stop doing. Truthfully, before she knew Annie she was mad that she got cheer captain instead of her. It was selfish but she thought she deserved it. That was until the two girls became friends and Nat realized how great of a cheer captain she was. Better than Nat would have ever been.
Of course not everyone was accepting. There was a senior girl who hated Annie, kept giving her the death glare out of jealousy. Of course if she ever heard that girl talk about Annie, Nat would be quick to step in to defend. It was obvious the girl was jealous and upset that the upperclassmen didn't get captain. But Natalie sort of liked how they gave it to a lowerclassman. It was unexpected and made their team different. It helped break boundries and gave them an advantage in a way. It would also teach the older ones to respect the younger ones. That they were all equal and everyone had there share. One person wasn't better than the other. There was no discrimination by age, wealth, or popularity status. That the choosing was solely on personality and skills as a leader. That it was completely fair even though upperclassman opposed. But Nat knew there would always be someone who opposed to decisions. But they just had to deal with it.
Natalie gave a smile and nodded getting excited. "I have to admit, I am really impressed with the freshman. It seems like the talent gets better and better each year." Nat said with a smile. Annie mentioned the personality in the dances. "I know, it's a better way to get to know someone than actually talking to them." Natalie joked with a small laugh. By the dances you could usually tell the focused ones, the fun ones, the uptight ones, and of course the wild ones. Natalie gave a laugh when Annie mentioned her being the inspiration. "Well obviously I am, I am everyone's inspiration." Natalie said with fake confidence that was obviously in a joking matter. Natalie was confident but she really wasn't that overconfidant. But she did know she was a skilled dancer. But probably not the best one out there.
Natalie smiled "Do you mean need a walk or a shower? Because for me both sound wonderful right now." she said with a grin. Natalie would love a nice warm shower. She didn't like the cold that much. She loved how warm water felt against the skin. It calmed her and opened her pores. "Would you mind if I join you on your walk?" Natalie asked guessing that Annie was going to take that wonderous walk she mentioned.

YOU DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER fast cars && freedom , STEREOTYPES. Annie hated hearing about stereotypes; they were so... stereotypical. Everyone had the image of who people should be in their mind. For example, brunettes were the studious ones, often with glasses, though not complete dorks. Dorks had glasses, and sometimes suspenders and high socks - but that was more nerds. Nerds were scrawny little kids with the high shorts, high socks, suspenders and tiny checked shirts, with short hair and freckles detailed with taped glasses that were broken by the school bully. The school bully was a big kid who somehow always managed to get the pretty girl. That pretty girl was often blonde, very thin, ditsy, often mean herself, and generally a cheerleader. That was such a terrible stereotype because then it back tracked to all of the other stereotypes. Why couldn't people like someone first, then make judgements later? That's what Annie tried to do, though sometimes it was difficult and a lot easier to make judgements first. She hated to admit it, but sometimes Annie did do that.
LISTENING, Annie found that she agreed with all of what Natalie was saying. It was true, the freshmen were really good! Annie remembered being a freshman. She didn't want to come to the community college since she had lived in the town for entire life, but the financial situation was rough and she recieved a full ride for cheerleading. It didn't cost a shiny penny for Annie to attend school, and watching some of the freshmen she knew that there were one or two really good ones who seemed like they could've been in the same situation. It wasn't just the skill that Annie noticed because there were a few girls not up to the exact college standard yet, but they showed great expression. It was a nice way to tell who was fiesty, sweet, and liked to be focused. "Yes, of course!" Annie laughed, "definately mine!" She said it to go along with the joke, but it wasn't pure sarcasm because some of her meant it. Annie was the kind of dancer who did the facials well - the kind of girl who could be in the worst mood, step on the mat and make it seem like all was fine and dandy, and then step off angry once again. However, that was all she did; she made the facials with the fake emotion, she didn't put much of herself into it because she concentrated a bit too much.
"BOTH," Annie answered; both did sound wonderful right now. "And yes, you can absolutely join me!" She looked around to decide which direction seemed best. She chose the one that was more shady, yet had it's sunny spots as well. Nodding in that direction, she began to walk at an easy pace. Annie wasn't quite sure what was going on in peoples' lives over the summer because without all of the college kids so confined, there was a little less drama to deal with. "So have you heard of any good drama lately?" she asked, grinning. She wasn't one for spreading rumours, but she did enjoy listening to them to see what people could come up with, and every once in a while she too would gossip. As a nineteen year old girl, it was difficult not to.

Natalie gave a laugh when Annie talked about her being Annie's inspiration. "Doesn't surprise me." she replied back with a laugh again joking around. But Nat knew that the freshman looking up to her wasn't a lie. The freshman always tended to admire the upperclassman's skill because of their more years of experience. Nat remembered when she was a littl freshman and was intimidated by the beautiful girls that were now graduates or Seniors. Things have certainly changed since then. Back then Nat was hidden in the back because of her newbie status. But thank goodness Annie was captain. Since she was that meant no one would be hidden because of their age. Things were completely fair.
"But honestly, you are kind of my role model even if you are younger." Nat said. She wasn't even trying to flatter her for no reason. It was completely true. "I mean you are an underclassman yet you have amazing leadership. You even get the upperclassman to listen to you." Nat said with a smile. If Annie ever needed help getting the girl's attention Nat usually helped out. Of course the Seniors didn't seem to enjoy the scolding they recieved from someone younger than them like Nat. But they sort of did need to get over themselves and deal with the fact that someone younger than them can be more skilled. Jealousy wasn't going to do anything for them.
Nat smiled and walked beside Annie around campus. She smiled as a nice breeze went by causing her ponytail to swish a bit. Annie asked about any good gossip being heard. She shrugged. "You know, the usual. Some about people cheating, others about pregnancies. But they usually end up false." Nat said with a shrug. Sure she did love gossip but it was never interesting if it wasn't true. There was at least one rumor about everyone. But they barely were true. If she heard of a rumor that made some sense she would be sure to spread it along to others. But these rumors were sort of pathetic. Like girl fights and wanting to ruin each other's lives. "Have you?" she asked Annie.

YOU DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER fast cars && freedom , ANNIE was never good with compliments because she didn't know the proper way to recieve them. She smiled, did the polite thing, but she was always unsure about whether or not to return one. If she didn't, it could be rude, but if she did it could go back and forth for a while. There were different ways that different people received compliments; it was usually who Annie was around that determined her response. It was usually the same on her part, however, when she was recieving. She smiled again and looked down, "Thanks." She wasn't used to hearing that she was somebody's role model. Annie coached a cheer squad for the younger age group of ten year olds, and she also stopped in to help her high school's squad when she got the chance. She was kind of used to hearing the little kids go off about her, but it was completely different when it was coming from somebody older than ten years old, let alone somebody older than Annie herself! It made her feel good.
OH, the gossip pool was shallow today. Those were always disappointing days because there was nothing to use to break the ice with somebody. For example, in her calculus freshman year, Annie sat beside a girl who for the first half of the year didn't say much of anything to Annie, let alone acknowledge her. However, since both of the girls would arrive to the room somewhat early, they'd sit in silence. Fed up with it, Annie decided to try to make the girl talk to her. So, naturally, she asked the typical, 'so have you heard anything about...' question. Luckily the girl enjoyed that particular rumour enough to discuss it. If the girl hadn't... well, that would be kind of awkward, an immediate put down. Then the year would have gone on very slowly in that class. Thankfully, there wasn't such an awkward layer between Natalie and Annie since they were friends.
WITH a sigh Annie shook her head., "No, I actually haven't heard much of anything beyond the norm." The norm was simply that; the usual drama that every school, every town, every teenager witnesses at some point in their lives. Over dramatic girls fighting over boyfriends, boyfriends who supposedly cheated, love triangles, and a mistake at a party. Depending on who the subject was, those stories could get quite unique and interesting, but at the same time they were very usual. "I did go to the beach and Gaston gathered up some of us for a game of volleyball," she shrugged, "It was pretty fun. Not much competitive drama or anything - just the same old boys showing off for the girls. Didier ended up picking up some blonde girl - at least it looked it, but that's usual." Didier Gaston was one of the best football players on the team, and he was a senior. Annie wasn't fond of his personality, but she tolerated him enough. He just thought he was the best and could pick up anybody. At first glance he could, but when he opened his mouth and got past the charm, Annie could see right through him. She couldn't say the same about the blonde girl at the beach; she seemed kind of naiive about the whole situation and who he was. "Who knows though, maybe it'll turn into some quality drama? But until then... I guess we're stuck with the same old same old."

Natalie gave a small smile and laughed as Annie looked down when she receieved the compliment. Annie took compliments in the most adorable and shy way. Nat just loved it so much. She couldn't help but smile at the girl. "You are so shy when getting complimented. It makes you seem so innocent" Natalie said with a laugh. Then again she shouldn't be the one talking. By the looks of it Nat thought she looked pretty innocent. She had the huge adorable eyes, the sweet smile, the natural blush, the cute blonde hair. It made her feel so young compared to her friends. Many commented on how she looked younger than she was. Hopefully she would continue to look young even as an old woman. Because really, who wanted wrinkles and aging?
Natalie sighed at Annie's response about the lack of gossip. "This gossip issue is getting sort of pathetic. Like people aren't even creative these days. I never start gossip but if I hear something good I tell my closest friends, but that's about it." Nat said with a shrug. She just loved talking with her friends about scandals. It was sort of mean but it was fun and helped time fly by a bit. Natalie raised her eyebrows at the mention of Didier Gaston. Sure he was on the football team and thought he was the hottest guy in the school. Key word 'thought' Nat didn't really see much in the guy. She just saw a self-absorbed arrogant jerk.
She mentioned him picking up some blonde girl. "What did the blonde girl look like? Do you know her?" she asked curious wondering if she knew the blondie who actually fell for Gaston's tricks. That girl must've either been a flirt, incredibly naive, or stupid. She could've had no sense of taste in guys. That also was a pretty good possibility. Nat nodded "Something will be bound to happen eventually though. I guess we have to be patient. Because Drama spreads as a wildfire. One little spark is all it takes to burn down the whole forest." Natalie said smiling at her own little figure of speech which she had to admit was quite clever.

YOU DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER fast cars && freedom , NATALIE'S comment made Annie blush even more. "Stop!" she joked in a wining sort of voice, letting it drag out. She gave Nat a very slight shove, which wasn't even enough to make anyone lose their footing more than a little sidestep. Then she could feel her red cheeks fade back to their normal summer tan. That was how she liked it; to be normal - or try to be anyway. It wasn't that she wasn't normal, she just had a tendency to somehow receive attention. Annie loved to be the center of attention, but she didn't like compliments unless they were strictly relating to the mat and cheering. She felt like compliments were like scrutinization. Sure, it was all positive, but it was about things that people noticed. The difference between attention and compliments was that compliments meant more details were noticed rather than the person as a whole.
IT was nice to hear that some people had limits regarding rumours and spreading them. Annie nodded, "see, that's the sensible - and perfectly natural thing to do." She grinned, though she wished more people were like that. Annie herself had her own limitations. She imagined that her mother was the rumour spreading kind of teenager, and when Annie was coming around her mother had to deal with it all - and Annie was the rumour that turned out to be true. High school mothers had to deal with things like that, and Annie didn't want to be like her mother because... well, Annie was more of a mother than the child. When she put it in that perspective, she discovered her disliking for rumours and drama, but then the teenage girl screamed out a reminder of the entertainment it brought. "I do the same thing," she admitted, "although I tend to tell more than just my closest friends." That was her greatest downfall, but each time she heard something she made sure to label it. "But I do say that it's just a rumour and that I really know none of the details. Nor do I start it." The two girls each seemed fairly fair when it came down to rumours. Annie would never be able to start one, though in her head she occasionally thought of all of the situations that were possible. She'd be too ashamed and guilty if she were to start one.
ANNIE didn't have trouble thinking of what the girl looked like generally, but the details were fuzzy. If it came down to causing something, Annie probably wouldn't put two and two together if details were involved. She tried to recall any details that might help, "Nah, I don't know her - I don't think she's in my grade. Well, she was blonde, like I said, her hair was curly, she looked like she was kind of tall, thin... That's about all I can remember." At the mention of being patient for drama because it was bound to come, Annie pouted a little, "Ugh, but I don't want to be patient! I've been waiting all summer for something to happen." Annie was a pretty patient person, but there were some things that she just didn't want to be patient any longer about. "Nice comparison by the way."
